The history of Yonsei University College of Medicine began with the opening of “Kwanghyewon” in 1885. In the following year, 1886, “Chejungwon Medical School,” Korea’s first institution of western medicine, was founded. Since then we have been leading the development of modern medicine in Korea.

As we celebrate our proud history and distinguished achievements, Yonsei University College of Medicine is preparing to take a leap forward on the global stage.

We are committed to the creation of an atmosphere in which all students and faculty can reach their full potential. In addition to education in medicine, we aim to further strengthen our programs in clinical and basic research to enhance the essential support functions of our school and distribute resources more efficiently, boosting cooperation, creativity, and open innovation. We also strive to raise the standard of medicine and medical care in Korea so that we can be positioned on a global level as a central hub of medicine, by discovering and nurturing students with potential and venturing into the most advanced areas of clinical medicine.

Yonsei University College of Medicine will achieve our goal of serving as the cradle for global leaders who practice the art of medicine with the help of our outstanding faculty, students, academic traditions and advanced medical skills, as well as the Severance spirit of “God is love.”
