VISION YONSEI 150
118 Years of Excellence : Expanding Horizons, Leading the Future
Since its founding in 1906 by Esther Lucas Shields, an American nursing missionary, Yonsei University College of Nursing has been dedicated to fulfilling the mission of nursing to create a healthy society for the past 117 years. Starting with the graduation of the first Bachelor of Science in Nursing in Korea in 1910, YUCON has played a significant role in the modernization of nursing education in our country. YUCON opened a Master's degree program in nursing in 1963 becoming the first college of nursing in Korea in 1968, and established the first doctoral program in nursing in Korea in 1978. With our history and tradition, YUCON proudly stands as a leading institution in nursing education. As of 2023, the school is home to more than 5,250 undergraduate alumni, 1,850 RN-BSNs, and 1,850 post-graduate alumni. YUCON has relentlessly pursued the mission of making society healthy through nursing for the past 115 years. Yonsei nursing alumni, through servant leadership, have been contributing to the global society by exemplifying the values of care and a spirit of a strong community in various settings.
